Wexham Neighbourhood Watch and Police information

May I say hello to all the residents that I have not the opportunity to meet since I first took over from Tony YOUNG in February 2008.

I have been a serving police officer for about 6.5 years so a little behind Tony and plenty left to go.

I initially was a 24 hour response officer out of Slough for my first 3 years of service before moving to the prisoner handling team for 3 months where I took on arrested persons and investigations for other officers.

From here I moved to Iver where I was the local beat officer for the area initially on my own, and worked closely with Tony YOUNG both for the Iver and Stoke Poges & Wexham Beat Areas.

The Police borders were then redrawn and PCSO’s were introduced to the area.

Several have come and gone from various areas but I then stepped in to the new beat of Stoke Poges & Wexham.

We have a very capable, willing and able PCSO for Stoke Poges named Ben MOAT who has the tasks to visits victims of crime, advise on Crime Reduction with Lucy GROVES, South Bucks Crime Reduction Officer and general patrol for Public Reassurance, issue parking tickets and more…

I have been made to feel very welcome to the area and will be about in various guises meaning police cars, vans and now bikes. Ben will of course be encouraged to the same with the summer approaching.

Neighbourhood Policing is going well within the Village and the 3 identified priorities for the area are:

  1. Anti-Social Behaviour,
  2. Burglary,
  3. Speeding.

The Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG) is undertaking tasks such as considering Graffiti Walls and interactive tools such as the I-VAN offered out for youths across South Bucks.

Neighbourhood Watch in the area I have always been very impressed with offering an extremely large network covering much of the village. A lot of thanks for the efforts on this goes to Tony.

It is through Schemes such as this that we continue to have a Safe Village to live in and vigilant residents to report suspicious incidents and crime.

I am always very keen to assist existing watch schemes but also to set up new areas not yet covered.

Any help on queries such as this can be directed to myself, or the Neighbourhood Watch Office based at Amersham Police Station.

As summer is now approaching and our holidays looming we are looking forward to going and would like to return to our homes as we left them. So I thought that it would be good to remind you of a few security tips.

Before you go

v      Make your home look like some one is living in it, (as much as you can)

·         Use timer switches on the lights and a radio.

·         Mail in side the front door is a giveaway (the Royal Mail run a service ‘Keep safe’ that will hold your mail for 2 months.

·         You could always ask your neighbour to draw your curtains and move mail and the free papers etc. from the front door. Possibly mow your lawn even park a car in your drive. You can return the favour when they go away

v      Cancel any milk or newspaper deliveries

v      Avoid discussing your holiday plans in front of strangers

v      Consider leaving valuable or important documents and items with other family members or a bank or lock then in a safe.

v      If you keep valuable bikes, tools or other items in the shed you could consider leaving them in the house.

v      Before you go cut the lawn and trim back any shrubs or bushes that may give cover to a burglar.

v      Do not put your home address on your luggage when travelling to you holiday destination.

v      If you are travelling by taxi to the airport give them the impression that someone is still at home

v      Let a neighbour know that you are going to be away also if you are in a Neighbourhood Watch scheme let your co-ordinator know.

v      Secure ladders and ensure open windows are not easily accessible to criminals.

v      Finally make sure that you have locked all external doors, windows and gates. If you have a burglar alarm make sure that you set it.

Should you feel the need for further advice, please don’t hesitate to contact me by either mobile or email . We will also have the Crime Prevention Van at the Village Fete (TBC).

I hope you all have a great and crime free summer.
